The terms, without
sales jargon

The vocabulary that comes up when radiology meets AI and regulation, explained the way we would have liked to read it.

Reporting workflow

  • STRUCTURED REPORTA report organized into standardized sections (technique, findings, impression), comparable across exams and across teams
  • TATTurnaround time: the time between the exam becoming available and the signed report. Here, the measured median from editor to signature is 52 s
  • WORKLISTThe RIS exam queue that feeds the report context, with no manual upload
  • COMPARISONThe prior exam used as a reference; half the meaning of a finding comes from it
  • IMPRESSIONThe report's conclusion: what the requesting physician reads first and what guides management
  • ZERO-CLICKInterface principle: review always visible in the workflow, with no hidden step or extra button

Quality and clinical safety

  • CRITICAL FINDINGA finding that requires active communication to the requesting physician, with a deadline, confirmation and record
  • SLAAgreed deadline for communication or delivery; in CRIT, each criticality level has its own
  • CLOSED LOOPCommunication confirmed end to end: who received it, when, recorded
  • INTEROBSERVER AGREEMENTHow consistently two radiologists classify the same case; standardization and cited criteria raise this rate
  • AUDITABLE LOGAn immutable per-exam record of what the AI suggested and what the physician decided, with a timestamp

AI and regulation

  • ASSISTIVE AIAI that structures and suggests under human review; in contrast to autonomous diagnosis
  • MEANINGFUL HUMAN SUPERVISIONA requirement of CFM 2.454/2026: the physician actually reviews and signs what the AI suggests
  • CFM 2.454/2026Resolution of the Federal Council of Medicine that governs the clinical use of AI in Brazilian medicine
  • LGPDGeneral Data Protection Law; health data is sensitive and requires a legal basis and specific safeguards
  • DATA RESIDENCYWhere data sits at rest; the answer must be documented per feature and deployment
  • DPOData protection officer: the LGPD point of contact within the institution
  • INTERNAL BENCHMARKA controlled fidelity assessment; LaiBench is not external clinical validation

Integration

  • RISRadiology Information System: scheduling, worklist and order data
  • PACSPicture Archiving and Communication System: where images and priors live
  • HL7Standard for exchanging clinical messages between health systems
  • DICOMStandard for medical images and their metadata

Direct questions

Missing a term?

The glossary grows with questions from those who report and those who buy. Send yours to oi@laudos.ai and we'll add it.

A definition that helps you work

An understood term needs to go back into the workflow

PACS, RIS, HL7 and DICOM explain how the exam and the report circulate. Critical finding explains why communication needs confirmation. Structured report explains how form and content can be governed without taking away authorship. The glossary connects each definition to the operational decision in which it appears.

The pages do not interpret exams or turn an isolated term into guidance for patients. The goal is to give radiologists, managers, IT and DPO a common language so that an integration or compliance meeting is not interrupted by six different definitions of the same word.

Questions and answers

How many entries does the glossary have?

There are 61 pages published in this section, and each one opens directly, with no sign-up and no paywall. All sections

What is the glossary for?

To bring together the terms that appear in the report and in the radiology workflow, with an objective definition and the most common mistake for each one. Who publishes

Is the content reviewed by a physician?

Yes. Editorial responsibility lies with a radiologist registered with CRM-SP, and each page shows the date the content last changed. Who signs

Does this replace clinical assessment?

No. The material supports the decision of whoever writes the report. The finding, the clinical correlation and the management remain with whoever signs the exam. Clinical governance
